Health Care
Offering health insurance advice and going after wrongdoers are priorities for the Attorney General’s office.
Through the Patients Assistance program, you can ask for advice on what your health plan covers and what it doesn’t. If you disagree with your health plan's decisions, you can get our help in filing an appeal.
You should feel free to call our specialists with questions about benefits, length of coverage, authorized treatments and other issues.
We offer consumers health care tips, like warnings about buying prescription drugs online and how to evaluate
weight loss programs.
You can also help stop health care fraud in nursing homes and rest homes by telling us when you suspect wrongdoing. We can investigate long-term care facilities that receive Medicaid for fraud or abuse.
The Attorney General's Office is also working with the North Carolina Association of Free Clinics to give low-income uninsured and underinsured North Carolinians access to needed prescription drugs. We are creating a central pharmacy to provide medications donated by drug companies to clinics, county health departments, rural health centers, and other health care providers.
The initial year-long pilot program, run by non-profit pharmacy MedAssist of Mecklenburg, will serve residents in Cleveland and Onslow counties and patients at clinics in Matthews, Huntersville, Raleigh, Lumberton, Albemarle, Forest City and Highlands. The program is funded through settlements involving prescription drugs.
