Radar Certification Courses

Course Listing
Basic Courses
Radar Operator Training (minimum 32 hours of training)
Time-Distance Operator Training (minimum 32 hours of training)
Radar/Time-Distance Operator Training (minimum 48 hours of training)
Recertification Courses (Recertification is required every
3 years)
Radar Operator Recertification (minimum 8 hours of training)
Time-Distance Operator Recertification (minimum 8 hours of training)
Radar/Time-Distance Operator Recertification (minimum 13 hours of training)
Radar Instructor Courses
Radar Instructor (minimum 62 hours of training)
Time-Distance Instructor (minimum 62 hours of training)
Supplemental Courses
Supplemental training must be completed on all radar units not included in
the initial certification. No written test is required. The supplemental training
must consist of a minimum of 1 ½ hours of training by a certified radar
instructor.
- If upgrading to same lane mode the operator must complete 4 hours of
field practice and submit a field practice log (link to Form SMI 15)
- If upgrading from stationary to moving radar, the operator must complete
8 hours of field practice and submit a field practice log. (link to Form
SMI 15)
- If upgrading from single to dual antenna, no field practice is required.
Retest Procedures
- Complete the Request for Re-Examination form (link to form SMI 6)
- The School Director must sign the form
- Submit request for retest within 30 days to the Criminal Justice Standards
Division
- Date, time and location for retest will be assigned by a Field Representative
- Must complete the retest within 90 days
