Elder Abuse
North Carolina law protects disabled adults of any age from abuse and neglect. The Protection of the Abused, Neglected or Exploited Disabled Adult Act (N.C. General Statute108A-99) requires that, "any person having reasonable cause to believe that a disabled adult is in need of protective services shall report such information." If you suspect that an elderly adult is being abused, call the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services CARE-LINE at 1-800-662-7030.The Attorney General's Office also includes the Medicaid Investigations Unit, which works to investigate and prosecute fraud, patient abuse, and embezzlement in Medicaid-funded facilities.
If you have questions about the laws that protect senior citizens or your legal rights as a senior citizen, please contact Victims and Citizens Services.
